    REPLACEMENT FOR MISS BAKER'S CLASS

I’m pleased to announce Mr. Liam Charles has accepted the position of Grade One teacher starting in Term 3, replacing Miss Maddy Baker who will be starting her maternity leave from week 3 of Term 3.

There will be a two week overlap period where both teachers will be in the classroom to support the teacher transition and the student's learning.

Mr Charles has done an excellent job working across our school in the role of a Casual Relief Teacher since returning from overseas travel, and he is very excited about working the second semester at St Ita’s in Grade One.

We welcome Liam into the St Ita’s teaching and learning community, and wish Miss Baker all the very best with the birth of her first child.

    Respect_in_the_Classroom.png

At St Ita’s we understand the importance of making sure all our kids are placed in a child safe and respectful environment at school. The message we send to our students daily is that St Ita’s is a place of respect for fellow students, parents and teachers.

Teaching respect in the classroom is a critical element of classroom management. Respect is characterized by a feeling of sincere admiration for someone or something brought about by qualities they possess, their abilities, or their achievements. Simply put, respect is the regard with which we hold other people, and it’s demonstrated through our responses to others, through our intentions and our thoughts for other people.

    GIRLS FOOTY

We’ve recently had a number of great success stories of late relating to girl’s football. Lots of our young girls are getting involved in our great game and getting lots of enjoyment and exercise from it. If your daughter is playing we’d love to know about how she is going. Send us a photo.

    CHARLOTTE BILLS

Charlotte Bills is one of our up and coming stars at St Ita’s. On the weekend she played for the Drouin Hawks, and proved she is more than capable of mixing it with the best of them on game day. Charlotte was recently selected in the local interleague squad, she has silky skills and an enormous tank when chasing the ball. She is almost Dustin Martin like with her feet and hand skills rarely missing a target

    LUCY GRECO

Little Lucy Greco has also pulled on the Drouin jumper on the weekends. This tenacious little wild cat is whippet like and loves the contest when under pressure. Often confused with Lenny Hayes from St Kilda, Lucy is one to watch in the future.

    PUBLISHED WRITING

Congratulations to Tilly on another publish book review in the Geelong Advertiser. A running champion and a reading champion!

    Book_Review_0706.jpg

Thank you to the parents who have been supporting their children in their pursuits of being a published book reviewer. Our library wall is really filling up with books reviews. Our students read these reviews to make decisions on what to read next.

    Story Box Library

Just a reminder to parents and new families that we have a subscription to Story Box Library. There is a link to the website below, or you can download the app. I encourage you to try it out.

    Audiobooks

If your child isn’t into reading, or if they haven’t found the genre that they love yet, get them listening to audio books. Also known as ear-reading, it’s a great way for our students to explore and develop a love of story. I use the app BorrowBox which is free through the Local Community Library-Myli.

    PARISH NEWS

Was ever a command so obeyed?

    0706.jpg

Jesus offers himself as the food of eternal life from the Father in this week's startling gospel from John (John 6:51–58). He tells the crowds:

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world…..for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink."

This isn't easy to listen to and then in Luke 22:19 he tells us to:

"Do this in remembrance of me."

Precise understanding of these passages, has been a feature of angst and division among Christians, certainly since the Reformation. None the less, most regard the ritual as significant in the life of their Christian community.  Dom Gregory Dix, an Anglican monk and eminent liturgist of the last century, vividly sums it up:

“Was ever a command so obeyed? For century after century, spreading slowly to every continent and country and among every race on earth, this action has been done, in every conceivable circumstance, for every conceivable human need from infancy and before it to extreme old age and after it, from the pinnacles of human greatness to the refuge of fugitives in the caves and dens of the earth."

For Catholics, celebration of the Eucharist is central to our worship and liturgy. When I have the opportunity, I like to observe parishioners of every age and background reverently receiving communion, part of my own communion and at one with the millions who are fed by the Body and Blood of Jesus, both today and down through the centuries.
